The Hunger Games – Conservative or Liberal

I was listening to a recent discussion about the movie The Hunger Games and discussing if the government and society portrayed in the movie was right or left. Conservative, Liberal, or Socialist. The discussion was fascinating because people who are liberal claimed it was a conservative government and conservatives were sure it was a liberal or socialist government and society. Both groups cited various scenes in the movie to back up their points and were sure they were right.

The truth is, both groups were wrong. The government and capital portrayed in the movie is neither right or left. It is totalitarian in nature. The interesting thing is totalitarian governments can be either right or left, conservative, fascists or socialist. It really doesn’t matter what the underlying philosophy is at some point in world history there has been a totalitarian government that matched all of these philosophies.

The one common element in all totalitarian governments regardless of underlying philosophies is total control of the people. This is generally brought about by surveillance of the people such as portrayed in the book 1984 by George Orwell as well as brutality as showing in both Nazi Germany and Stalinist Russia. In all totalitarian governments there is always a favored group whose leader is generally in charge. They get special freedoms, privileges and access. In truth it is often this privileged group that insures the leader stays in power.

The other commons theme regardless of what type of government philosophy it is, i.e. right or left is that the government is too big and too powerful and simply too abusive. The fact that people who watch this movie and see “the other side” in that government shows they are completely missing the point.

When Republicans (not the same as conservatives) are in charge they grow the government and make it bigger and more intrusive. Under Bush II we got the lovely (un)Patroit Act which really put us on the road to that total surveillance state that is a component of totalitarian governments. Under Obama we have had huge freedoms stripped away from our economic lives, healthcare, and many other areas, plus he did absolutely nothing to remove or get rid of the hated Patriot Act, in fact, he signed bills that made it far worse by suspending Habeaus Corpus among other things.

So people who vote for the Republicans because they think the liberals will create a world like The Hunger Games have missed the point entirely and it cost them a chunk of their freedom. Those that thought Obama was a huge improvement over Bush because he was supposedly the “anti-Bush” were wrong and have given up even more of their precious freedom and moved us even closer to that totalitarian government. Each election both sides accuse the other of doing this or that, but both grow government and make it more powerful and more intrusive. Neither side ever shrinks it and with each election and year that goes by the noose tightens a little more.

Most people don’t feel this noose tightening accept when “the other guy” or “other team” is in charge. When “their guy” is in charge they basically give them a pass and say carry on. That is the critical mistake. With each government both sides are losing freedom, but they simply don’t seem to see it. That is why both sides are sure it is “the other guy” who must be in charge when a world like The Hunger Games is finally here.

The only way to insure a world like The Hunger Games never comes to pass for either group is to quit allowing yourself to be constantly duped and focus on the one and only group who will SHRINK the ENTIRE government and remove them from your lives. Not the group that will shrink just the part you don’t like, but in total.

If you don’t vote for a government that will TOTALLY remove government size and control from EVERYONE then you are simply helping create a totalitarian government. That big totalitarian government is used against you no matter who runs it. You perceive that the use against you is more tolerable when it is YOUR guy who is using it against you instead of the OTHER guy, but the reality is both are removing your freedom, it is simply a matter of WHICH freedom you happen to be giving up today.

Eventually what will happen is we will continue to keep playing musical chairs at each election and each time the government gets more and more powerful and rips away more and more freedom from EVERYONE. At some point the music will stop. A totalitarian government will exist. The Hunger Games will no longer be non-fiction. Are you willing to risk that the coin toss of who is sitting in that chair of power when the music stops is YOUR guy and YOU will be safe? If you are you are a fool.

I vote Libertarian because I don’t want to be wrong. I want to insure I always keep my freedom. Do I agree with every stance the Libertarian party takes? Absolutely not, but the one thing we agree on no matter what is that neither of us wants to live in a totalitarian regime. I want to know that MY GUY is ALWAYS trying to make government less powerful and less totalitarian. Are you willing to do the same?

Chris Christie Rails Against Freedom

Recently Chris Christie of NJ demonstrated his disdain for freedom (again) by railing against the recreational cannabis laws of Colorado. As usual Christie like many others comes down on the side of less freedom for the people and more laws, regulations, and less freedom for the people. This is only one of many issues where this is his position. We are still waiting to see how he decides on magazine bans in NJ. I can tell you how the smart money plans on betting for that one 🙂

He argues in this piece about this legalization becoming a “slippery slope”. What he really means is he, like other statists are afraid that the people will get a taste of a little too much freedom and start demanding more of it on all types of things and less government. Nothing scares big government statists and tyrants worse than having the people figure out there actually is a better way to live.

What I find amazing about this moron is that he is scared that a little more freedom will cause a “slippery slope” towards freedom, but when politicians like him pass “common sense” and “reasonable” “gun safety” laws and gun owners say we are beginning a slippery slope toward gun bans and tyranny we are called paranoid, right wing and gun nuts with a lose grip on reality.

Again just another case of big nanny state government knowing what’s best and the people just not knowing “what is good for them” as we go towards this supposedly dangerous “slippery slope” of freedom. I prefer Thomas Jefferson’s stance on it instead…

“I prefer the tumult of liberty to the quiet of servitude.”

The really sad thing is this clown or that other stalwart of freedom Jeb Bush [full sarcasm intended] will end up being the nominee for the Republican Party for President in 2016. And they wonder why 75% of the American population doesn’t even bother to vote any longer.

We see almost zero difference between the two major parties. Both hate freedom. Both are scared to death of people getting even a taste of freedom. Both want bigger and more intrusive government on just about everything. No wonder the Founding Fathers had such disdain for “parties” they saw this coming over 200 years ago!

Dan Malloy, Governor of Connecticut, Violates Civil Rights!

In a recent news conference in Connecticut, Governor Dan Malloy remarked to people objecting to his draconian gun control bill rammed through in 2013 by saying “your side lost”. You can see the actual video below. the comment occurs around the 4:46 mark.

Dan Malloy is a tyrant and not fit to be a dog catcher much less a Governor or god forbid the President. He clearly has no respect for the civil rights of law abiding Americans. In fact, this law of his has turned tens of thousands of law abiding citizens into felons with a stroke of a pen! Before the law they were perfectly legal to own and NOT register their legally owned property after the law they are felons if they don’t comply.

His comment of “your side lost” clearly shows his contempt for human rights and civil liberties as well as his absolute ignorance of the Constitution.

A right is something we are born with and is not granted by government nor is it subject to a vote where majority rules and therefore can be stripped away. The ONLY function of government is to PROTECT rights! Not grant them. Not vote them away.

The fact that Malloy claims that the law is perfectly Constitutional because one of the courts packed with equally Constitutionally ignorant judges with no knowledge of history doesn’t somehow make this OK.

Liberals and socialists like Malloy have a long history of denying people their civil rights simply because they don’t like them or more likely because those rights interfere with their socialist plans for society. At the same time they fail to protect enumerated rights actually written down in the Constitution. On the flip side they seem to be able to invent or create new rights like Healthcare, housing and welfare rights out of thin air.

His actions have now endangered the lives of citizens and police officers as he has set up a veritable powder keg in Connecticut when he tries to enforce his unconstitutional laws. People are going to end up getting killed when police are ordered to start kicking in doors to enforce this heinous law. The blood of those people will sit squarely on the shoulders of Malloy. Hey, Malloy, I wonder how well this will work for your Presidential aspirations!

Tyrants always believe that as long as they somehow lend an air of legitimacy to their actions, like a vote, that it somehow makes their actions OK, but let’s see if that is true when people across the nation start seeing police officers being killed trying to enforce this law and families that lose fathers, mothers, sons and daughters to the same police and blood truly is running in the streets.

Well, Malloy when you decide to order your storm troopers to start kicking in doors and dragging people off to prison for exercising one of their enumerated civil liberties a quote comes to mind… “things are about to get interesting”.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein Objects to CIA Spying on Congress

The Wall Street Journal just reported a remarkable story about a possible CIA spy operation performed on Congress. Of course the CIA is denying that they did anything like this, but I think if real facts can ever be dug up on this a different story will emerge.

However whether the CIA did or did not spy on Congress is not what is so remarkable about this story. Not by a long shot. What I find remarkable is Feinstein’s reaction to this possible scandal. She is quite upset and claims that if this was done it violates The Constitution’s Separation of Powers. Here is her exact quote…

“I have grave concerns that the CIA’s search may well have violated the separation-of-powers principles embodied in the U.S. Constitution”

That is what is so remarkable about this story. I love when tyrants like Diane Feinstein who wouldn’t know what The Constitution was if it was shoved in her face, unless the violations are against her or Congress!

This is the same women who is completely befuddled by the simple language in The Constitution especially The Bill of Rights and more specifically the 1st, 2nd, and 4th Amendments have proven particularly vexing to her reading skills, but let HER RIGHTS be violated and she is suddenly up in arms and quoting The Constitution like it was the greatest document ever created.

This is the most hypocritical thing I have seen in at least a week today coming out of Congress. The NSA has been violating the privacy and rights of Americans for YEARS and this women hasn’t whispered a peep about that, but let those violations occur against her and the other tyrants in Congress and suddenly she has a new found appreciation for The Constitution or at least a part of it as it applies to her.

The real story here is if she shows ANY consistency here and pursues this battle when it comes to OUR rights against their spying. I would not hold my breath waiting for that.

Tim Phillips of Global Post is Wrong about Gun Control

Tim Phillips of Global Post just posted an article advocating a solution to the gun control debate that has been going on for over a year now.  In reality this debate has been going on for the last 45+ years, since 1968 and some would argue back as far as 1934.  While I give him credit for his approach I believe he is missing the point on the issue.

The issue has never been about guns as much as it is about politics and control.  Take the proposed law from last spring to extend background checks to all private sales at gun shows that failed to pass.  As has been pointed out before this bill if it had been in effect for the past 10 years would have done NOTHING to stop almost all the mass shootings and certainly all the most recent ones going back 3-4 years.  Why?  Because in everyone one of those situations the shooters either passed the background checks or stole the guns.  In either cases the law would have done nothing to prevent them.  Yet, they pushed it just the same.  Why… because of politics and control.

Now, take the proposal by the NRA of adding people into schools who are armed and can provide a response to a mass shooter.  This could come in the form of an armed resource officer or an armed citizen who volunteers.  When the NRA suggested this they were ridiculed and dismissed immediately out of hand by every gun grabbing politician and “main stream” news organization.  Yet, this isn’t just some off the wall suggestion, this actual policy has been in place in Israel since 1976 and they haven’t had a SINGLE school shooting since then!

Why was the NRA policy so quickly dismissed?  Because the politicians and gun grabbers are more interested in politics and control than actually solving the problem.  The vast majority of the politicians that advocate for these bans have no interest in solving the actual issue.  They don’t even write or read the bill, rather they let some anti-gun lobbyist write the bill and then go push it like a good little dog.  They don’t understand what they are evening proposing.  This has been proven over and over again, most recently with the Colorado legislator that didn’t understand the difference between a clip and a magazine, but was willing to offer a law to ban them.  Again, why was she doing this?  Politics and Control.

Mr. Phillips discussed “negotiation” and understanding each other’s core values as a way of resolving this. That is completely naive to say the least.  The gun grabbing politicians are NOT interested in understanding our culture and never have been.  They are not interested in actual solutions that will work, just ramming yet, another law down our throats that will do nothing, but will move us closer to their true goal of total citizen disarmament.  To deny this as their true goal is either duplicitous or naive, take your pick.

What about the negotiation part, well the gun grabbers aren’t interested in that either.  In a true negotiation neither side gets what they really want, but both get something and while it may not be exactly what they were hoping for it will work.  The politicians who propose gun grabs are interested in only a one way street.  We give, they take, nothing more.  The negotiation becomes a “how much can we get away with this time with this law”.  If this was not true then how come the “negotiation” is never about us getting BACK some of our rights that have been taken away in previous laws that were proven to not work and now just hurt law abiding gun owners?  No, it is always how much more can we take this time.  It is never a true negotiation of give and take.  Why?  Again, politics and control.

Speaking as a gun owner I will say I don’t trust any politician who wants to just “discuss” how we can prevent tragedies in the future because for them that isn’t the true goal and we saw that first hand after Newtown, CT.  Many of them were so sure this was their big moment that they fully revealed their true colors.  Confiscation was used for the first time and many admitted it.  They shed their cloaks of “we believe in the 2nd Amendment” they always hide behind and let their true colors show.  Total ban on all civilian owned firearms and confiscation for those that have them now.

The problem gun owners have is we have been burned every time we “negotiate” with these people because they are interested in only one thing…disarmament.  We are always told if we just agree to this one “common sense” bill they will not be back, but that is a lie, they always come back.  There simply is no trust left and never will be.  While I don’t think Mr. Phillips is a bad guy, yet, he is naive and his article show it.

The most horrible atrocities in the 20th and eventually the 21st Century were caused by unchecked dictators who started their reign of terror with gun control first.  Disarm their victims and then murder them because they certainly can’t fight back now.  No thanks, Mr. Phillips.  I am not going in the box car willingly.  As gun owners we are not giving one more inch!

Terrorism vs. War on Terrorism – Which is Worse?

Before 9/11/2001 the vast majority of Americans had never been exposed to any type of terrorism and the concept was vague and not too terribly threatening to most people.  Most believed it was something that happened in distant lands with a lot of sand in them.

Then 9/11 happened and 3,000 Americans died as a direct result.  Suddenly terrorism was real and it was at our back door.  Naturally our fearless government rushed in to provide a solution to the panicked stricken people.

The next question of course is the cure worse than the disease?  In other words are the solutions we put in place worse than the threat of actual terrorist striking the U.S. again?

I argue, yes, they are.  George W. Bush put in the (un)Patroit Act and set up the Department of Homeland Security.  Fast forward 12 years later and we live in a desert when it comes to personal privacy.  Our email, Internet activity, phone calls, mail and a whole host of other avenues are constantly spied upon by the NSA, DEA, IRS, and several other alphabet soup agencies.

We have increasingly more militarized police forces and drones that spy on us from the skies.  The government can come in and spy on your library books you checked out for goodness sakes.  We now have cameras all over cities and on every highway to spy on us walking or driving anywhere.  Have you ever asked where all the data of that video goes or where it is stored or for how long?

Our 4th Amendment has been shredded; police rarely need to even bother getting a warrant any longer.  They just say the magic word “terrorism” and warrants are handed out like candy on Halloween.  The various levels of government can listen in using your own cell phone as a “bug” if they want.  They can use the same phone to track all of your travel, where you have been and who you have met with.

Our Habeaus Corpus has been suspended and Americans can now be locked up without access to a lawyer, courts, evidence, or anything resembling justice.  Many people already know all these things, but how many have considered them in light of the alternative?

We should feel Safe with a capital “S” with all of these “anti-terrorist” measures in place, but yet, we still almost had an explosion in Times Square a few years ago, that only due to a malfunction of the bomb did it not actually go off.  The Boston bombers were able to pull off a terror attack as well.

The bottom line is we are NOT safer today than we were 12 years ago, but we have given up a TON of freedom and we will never get that back.  So ask yourself again, what is worse the threat of terrorism, which is still a clear and present danger or the war on terrorism?

Colorado Tells Bloomberg to Butt Out of State on Gun Issue

According to this article, Colorado Governor Democrat John Hickenlooper he is telling Michael Bloomberg to stay out of Colorado politics on the gun control issue. Strange, he seemed all for Bloomberg’s help before citizens tossed out 2 of his Democrat Senators in a special election. Now another of his Senators is facing a fresh recall effort. If this trend keeps up the Democrats will lose control of the Colorado Senate.

This is actually a hilarious comedy playing out. First, Hickenlooper makes it sound like Nanny Bloomberg came into Colorado and did all of this by himself. Did he develop amnesia about the fact HE SIGNED THE GUN CONTROL BILLS INTO LAW!!! It was at his behest that the state legislature even took up the issue.

With prompting from Obama and money from Nanny Bloomberg new gun control was shoved down the throats of Colorado citizens. Obama believed as did Nanny Bloomberg that if they could prove a pro-gun western state with a long and rich firearms tradition could pass gun control without any backlash that it could be done anywhere. They hoped to prove the NRA was irrelevant in today’s political climate.

How did that work out for you?

This guy wants to blame Bloomberg for this whole issue going south on him, but he seems to forget he had the final say. He could have vetoed the bill, but he didn’t. He could push to undo it right now, which might calm the anger of his constituents, but he seems to have no interest in that either. Basically he wants the bleeding to stop and figures if he tells Nanny Bloomberg to buzz off that this will will cause the citizens to calm down. I doubt that very much.

Too little too late pal. You pissed on the wrong group this time. You took freedoms away from a group who is absolutely relentless in making you pay a political price and a group that has a looooong memory.

A wise man once said these enlightening words when he found himself in a similar predicament…

Congress, err, I mean the President Should Do his Job!

According to the eloquent speaking lying Jay Carney he is quoted as saying…

“The president has always said he will talk about anything. What he won’t do is pay a ransom…in exchange for Congress doing its fundamental job.”

Really? “Willing to talk about anything”… how big of him. Maybe sometime before the end of his presidency or this country, whichever comes first, we can actually get him to do something instead of just talking about it. So far the only thing I have seen Obama do is talk such as blaming Bush for everything, making excuses for his failures, or denying any knowledge of damn near anything that happens in his administration such as IRS abuses, gun running at the justice (small “j” since they don’t actually dispense Justice) Department or failure to save 4 brave Americans who died waiting for help in Benghazi.

Also, speaking of jobs, isn’t it the job of the Senate (The Democratically controlled one) to create a budget, which for some strange reason we have not seen in 5 YEARS! Or here is another one, how about voting on the HUGE pile of funding bills the House has sent to them already. Call me crazy, but I thought the Senate was a voting body, but you wouldn’t know if from their utter failure to vote on any of the funding bills sitting on their desk right now.

You see, Carney, if the Senate would do their job not only would veterans be allowed to see their own Memorials, but their families might actually be paid some death benefits as well, but we wouldn’t have to have these battles every year or so because we would know how much to spend by LOOKING AT THE BUDGET!!!! you nitwit!

Obama’s Anti-Gun Position Keeps Making Us Stronger

Obama has been trying mightily since his second term to shove gun control down our throats.  He has ALWAYS been truly anti-gun, but during his first term he wisely didn’t move against the 2nd Amendment because he knew that would come back to hurt him at the election, but once he was safely back in office the gloves came off as most us knew they would.

However actual results may vary.  Since December when Obama has been slamming hard on this let’s look at the record of what has been happening…

  1. He has failed to pass any Federal legislation.
  2. The NRA has grown from a little over 4 million members to now over 5 million.
  3. 2 anti-gun politicians in Colorado that supported Obama were blown out of office on a recall vote.
  4. Gun sales have soared to unprecedented levels for 5 straight years now.
  5. Far more states than have clamped down on guns have actually expanded gun freedoms.
  6. Every single gun related item you could have bought a year ago has been sold out and on back order, i.e. ammo, guns, gear, etc.

His record on guns has been pretty dismal.  The reason of course is because this is a civil liberty and Constitutional right and people are done surrendering their freedoms and civil liberties.  Obama is an unprecedented narcissist who has always believed he really could alter the world to his vision simply because he desired it.

I find it hilarious to watch one failure after another on this front and others as well.  Of course it will not alter his course one bit.  Until he is out of office he will be a danger to our civil liberties, but so far the only thing he has accomplished is making us far stronger and more engaged than we were before.  Your opportunity for a sneak attack was ever only a good idea in your narcissistic mind.  We ALWAYS knew who you really were and were simply waiting for you to make your move.

Therefore, I say to Obama, carry on chief.  If you keep at this the NRA will be 8 million members strong before this is over and you will succeed in losing the Senate as well as still not being able to reclaim the House.  If you keep interfering in State elections we will keep sending the anti-gun politicians back to you defeated.  You just don’t understand that the harder you push on this issue the more powerful we will get.

Colorado was your latest move and we handed you your arss… again!  I do believe we just sent you another message.  Think carefully about your next choice.  Its your move…

Billionaire vs. Plumber…Billionaire Lost!

The results of the Colorado recall election are in and Nanny Bloomberg’s two cronies that voted for gun control lost!  Yes, you read that correctly, despite dumping $350K into the race and trying to rally his “troops” to save the 2 anti-gun Democrats he failed!

Despite the groups pushing for the recall being out spent 7-1 and going up against a political machine that was designed to pump out perfect PR and messaging in carefully structured commercials they still lost.  The people calling for the recall ran the campaign on a shoestring and used complete grassroots strategies.

Oh, I almost forgot this other great part, one of the people tossed out of office was in a heavily Democrat district that Comrade Obama won by 20 points.  So how did this happen?  Simple, politicians in Colorado tried to deny a free people a God given right.

The tyrants refused to even listen to their constituents.  In fact, they were told by Nanny Bloomberg and Comrade Obama to ignore their emails, phone calls, and town halls.  Just stay focused and ram through gun control.  What the people wanted was irrelevant it was about what the gun control thugs wanted and what was “good for the little people” who apparently were too dumb to see how good this would be for them.

Unfortunately this victory didn’t actually change the political make-up of the Colorado statehouse enough to reverse the damage done by these tyrants, but hopefully it shows other tyrants in other states and at the Federal level just what happens to tyrants that don’t respect the rights and will of the people.  If you ignore the will of the people even a billionaire can’t save you.

While I realize the victory was largely symbolic so was the battle at Thermopylae 2,500 hundred years ago, but go ask the Persians how well that turned out for them.

So it would appear that history is repeating itself here.  Tyrants who arrive and tell the people to lay down their arms or else.  There was another battle like that 2,500 years ago in Thermopylae when the Persians told the Spartans to throw down their weapons and they calmly responded…
